Although you might expect Japan’s female skateboarding armada to be only about the established names and the second-generation youngsters coming up underneath them, spare some of your attention for Yamagata’s Miyu Ito. Having entered 2022 World Street Skateboarding Rome gave her nerve-settling big contest experience, Miyu is actually the most-improved of them all over the intervening period. She has one of the most full-on backside lipslides you will see in competitive skateboarding, and that is a trick which asks a lot of questions of a skater, particularly at distance- and she can do them far. Although she has only made one WST final she has made the semi’s in 3 others.
