The Basque Country is European skateboarding’s secret weapon, possessing as it does one of the longest unbroken lineages of concrete skateboarding in what is sometimes referred to as “Europe’s California”. It is also where Spanish national coach Alain Goikoetxea hails from, and in Naia Laso he has discovered another potential great. Having started skateboarding aged just 8, she entered the 2022 World Championships as a total unknown and creditably made it through to the Semi-Finals. One year on and she came in 5th. That is a trajectory and a half!
