MoonPay X Games League Draft: Chloe Covell and Tom Schaar headline inaugural four-club rosters

The first MoonPay X Games League Draft completed the league’s initial roster build with 40 athletes selected across four clubs and five rounds. XC New York opened the night by taking Chloe Covell first overall, while XC Los Angeles answered with Tom Schaar at No. 2, XC Tokyo took Arisa Trew at No. 3, and XC São Paulo closed the first round’s opening sequence with Gui Khury. X Games said the draft filled 10-athlete rosters for each club, with five men and five women per team across skateboarding and BMX.

From a roster construction standpoint, New York and Los Angeles both leaned skate-heavy while still adding proven BMX scorers. Tokyo built around a Japan-centered core with Arisa Trew and Kevin Peraza as the biggest international anchors. São Paulo assembled perhaps the most globally mixed roster, combining Brazilian skate talent with high-end BMX medal depth through Ryan Williams and Garrett Reynolds. The result is a league launch that already looks defined by contrasting team identities rather than four versions of the same draft strategy.

XC São Paulo roster

• Round 2, Pick 10, Ryan Williams, Australia, BMX
• Round 2, Pick 15, Queen Saray Villegas, Colombia, BMX
• Round 3, Pick 17, Ibuki Matsumoto, Japan, Skate
• Round 3, Pick 24, Garrett Reynolds, United States, BMX
• Round 4, Pick 28, Giovanni Vianna, Brazil, Skate
• Round 4, Pick 29, Ruby Lilley, United States, Skate
• Round 5, Pick 36, Minna Stess, United States, Skate
• Round 5, Pick 37, Nikita Ducarroz, Switzerland, BMX

On paper, XC New York looks the deepest pure skate team, led by Covell and Huston, with Roberts and Logan Martin giving it a clear BMX floor. Los Angeles spread its risk more evenly across skate and BMX and may have the cleanest age blend in the field. Tokyo appears built around national cohesion and technical consistency, while São Paulo may carry the highest event-to-event volatility because of how much upside sits in Khury, Williams and Brown. That should make the opening XGL season less about one dominant superteam and more about which roster can convert specialist strength into cumulative points.
